UNDERSTANDING THE WHOLE PERSON

How holistic psychology supports real change in your life

Anna O’Grady Psychology offers holistic psychological therapy that means understanding you as a whole person, mind, body, and spirit. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, we explore the deeper layers of your experience to support meaningful and lasting change.

Traditional approaches often centre on symptom management, which can be helpful but may not address the root causes of distress. A holistic lens allows us to identify more complex issues that may span multiple areas of your life – emotional, physical, relational, and existential. For instance, emotional distress often shows up in the body as muscle tension, sleep difficulties, or physical pain, and may be accompanied by a sense of disconnection or loss of meaning.

In our work together, we may explore how early experiences have shaped your thinking patterns, how stress is held in the body, or how your values relate to the challenges you’re facing now. Using evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we draw upon mindfulness and values-based action to help you break free from old thought patterns and limiting beliefs that may be keeping you stuck.

This deeper level of self-awareness supports empowerment, emotional regulation, and self-acceptance. It helps reconnect the parts of you that may feel out of sync, so you can move forward with clarity, confidence, and a greater sense of inner wisdom and wellbeing.

MY SERVICES

Holistic psychology services for growth and meaningful change

Some people seek support during times of emotional overwhelm, burnout, or self-doubt. Others arrive at a crossroads, craving clarity, direction, or a deeper connection to themselves. I offer two distinct forms of psychological support to meet you where you are – one focused on healing and self-understanding and the other on growth, momentum, and forward movement.

While these approaches may differ slightly in focus and outcomes, they share a common thread: both encourage insight, action and meaningful steps toward the life you want to create.

Psychological counselling services

For emotional healing, insight and deeper self-understanding

Psychological counselling is a space to work through anxiety, low mood, burnout, unresolved trauma, relationship struggles or a general sense of feeling stuck. Together, we explore the patterns, beliefs and emotional layers that may be keeping you in a holding pattern. I use a blend of therapies, including CBT, ACT, mindfulness and narrative therapy, always grounded in your goals and pace. You’ll leave with greater emotional regulation, more apparent self-awareness and practical tools that support change in your everyday life.

Coaching Psychologist services

For future-focused growth, confidence and aligned action

Coaching psychology is for anyone ready to make meaningful changes and stay accountable to their goals – whether in work, relationships, or personal life. It’s ideal for those seeking clarity, direction, or renewed motivation. We’ll work on areas such as boundaries, confidence, career direction, or unhelpful relationship patterns. Using structured reflection and mindset tools, such as reframing limiting beliefs and building self-trust alongside practical strategies, you’ll be supported to take clear, purposeful action. It’s a collaborative and energising process, grounded in real-life progress.

FEELING HESITANT

If you’re feeling unsure, you’re not alone

Many people feel hesitant before reaching out. You might wonder if therapy will really help or if you feel nervous about opening up. Perhaps you’ve had past experiences that left you guarded, or you’re just not sure where to begin. That’s okay.

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin. This space is designed to meet you exactly where you are: gently, respectfully, and without pressure.

Here are some common worries I hear from my clients

  • “What if nothing really changes?”
  • “What if I get overwhelmed?”
  • “What if I’m not ready to talk about everything?”
  • “Shouldn’t I be able to fix this myself?”

These are everyday human concerns. You’re welcome to bring them into the space as well.

In fact, doing so can be the beginning of real, meaningful change.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

What to expect when you begin psychological counselling

Starting therapy or coaching can feel like a big step, especially if it’s new or past experiences weren’t what you’d hoped for. Here, sessions are collaborative and tailored to what’s most important to you. You’ll be met with care, presence, and honest reflection as we explore what’s beneath the surface, at a pace that feels right for you.

Support includes space to discuss your experiences, develop emotional insight, and apply practical strategies in everyday life. Over time, we’ll reflect on your progress together, noticing what’s shifting, where you’re still feeling stuck, and how your goals are evolving. The focus is on creating real movement, not just understanding.

Practical details about sessions and support

  • In-person and online (telehealth) sessions available
  • 50–75 minute sessions depending on the service
  • Collaborative, flexible and client-focused approach
  • A balance of insight, emotional support and practical strategies
  • Regular progress check-ins and space to adjust goals as needed
  • Warm, confidential environment — for clients across Adelaide and beyond
THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

Therapy techniques that support insight, emotional clarity and change

I use a range of evidence-based therapy techniques to support emotional wellbeing, personal growth and lasting change. The approach we take will depend on your goals, pace and what feels most useful in your life right now.

Therapeutic approaches I may use in our work together

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

It helps you recognise and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours that may be contributing to emotional distress. It’s practical and results-focused, offering tools you can start applying right away.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

It encourages greater psychological flexibility by helping you accept complex thoughts and emotions while taking meaningful action aligned with your values.

Mindfulness-based strategies

It uses mindfulness and body awareness to help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and cultivate a deeper sense of calm, clarity, and self-connection.

Narrative Therapy

It offers a powerful way to explore and reframe the stories we tell ourselves, allowing space for new meaning, self-compassion, and possibility to emerge.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

It’s a future-oriented, strengths-based approach that helps clarify goals and highlight what is already working, supporting quick and actionable progress.

Positive Psychology

It focuses on building resilience and enhancing wellbeing by tapping into your strengths, values, and what brings purpose and vitality to your life.

FEES, REBATE & POLICIES

Fees, rebates and how to get started

Psychological counselling sessions are eligible for Medicare rebates with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. Coaching sessions are privately billed and not covered under Medicare. A full breakdown of fees, rebates and payment options is available on the dedicated fees page.

TELEHEALTH AND FACE-TO-FACE

Flexible therapy options, online or in-person

Psychological support should be accessible, personal and suited to the way you live. I offer both online and in-person sessions, so you can choose the format that feels most supportive for you.

Therapy options

Online (telehealth) sessions

It’s ideal for those outside Adelaide City and Adelaide metropolitan areas, particularly those with limited time or who prefer to work from home. Telehealth offers the same level of care and connection with added convenience and flexibility.

In-person sessions

For those who prefer a face-to-face connection in a calm and private setting. In-person sessions offer the grounding experience of being physically present and fully away from everyday distractions.

CLIENT EXPERIENCE

What clients often experience through this work

Clients often arrive feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected, unsure of what needs to change, but knowing something doesn’t feel right. Through this work, many begin to feel more emotionally regulated, confident and aligned with what matters to them.

They walk away with practical tools to manage stress, clearer insight into their patterns, stronger boundaries, and a renewed connection to their inner voice and values. For some, the shift is subtle, a sense of calm, clarity or self-trust returning. For others, it’s more visible, improved relationships, better decision-making, or a more grounded way of living.

Frequently asked questions about holistic psychology

What is psychological counselling and how can it help?

Psychological counselling is a structured, therapeutic process where you’re supported to explore what’s really going on beneath the surface, emotionally, mentally, and relationally. It’s not just talking; it’s about working together to understand your experiences, identify patterns, and gently create meaningful, lasting change.
It can help you gain insight, ease emotional distress, rebuild confidence, and feel more connected to yourself and others.

Read more about our psychological counselling services.

Do you offer coaching in addition to therapy?

Yes, I offer both psychological counselling and coaching. While there’s often overlap between the two, counselling typically supports deeper emotional healing and tends to explore past experiences and long-term patterns. Coaching is usually more future-focused and goal-oriented and may be more suited to those navigating transitions, making decisions, or wanting support with motivation and accountability.
We’ll decide together what approach best supports you and it’s always flexible depending on your needs.

Are your services face-to-face or online?

Sessions are available via secure Telehealth (video or phone), with face-to-face availability subject to change. Many clients appreciate the flexibility and privacy of online appointments especially when juggling busy lives.

What if I’m unsure whether my concerns warrant therapy?

This is something I hear often. Therapy isn’t only for crises, it’s also for the quieter moments when life feels off or when something inside you is calling for change. Counselling can also support prevention and maintenance of your mental health, helping you build resilience before challenges become overwhelming. If you’re wondering about therapy, that’s reason enough to reach out. Your experience matters.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is respected and protected. Anna adheres to strict professional and legal standards. There are very few exceptions (such as the risk of harm), which are clearly explained in the Fees, Rebates and policy page and consent process before your first session.

Do you offer bulk billing?

Anna O’Grady Psychology is a private billing practice, which means we do not offer bulk billing. That said, there are several community-based and government-funded services across Australia that do provide bulk-billed or low-cost psychological support. If cost is a concern, we’re more than happy to help you explore other options, just reach out via phone or email.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

You’re welcome to book in without a referral, no doctor’s letter is required to see a psychologist privately. However, if you’re hoping to claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need to obtain a referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP before your first session. Before your first session, please fax through your Mental Health Care Plan so we can process your rebate on the day of your first session.

How can I claim a Medicare rebate?

To access Medicare rebates for therapy, you’ll first need to make an appointment with your GP to discuss whether you’re eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Be sure to let the GP receptionist know this when booking, as these appointments usually require extra time. Once the Plan is in place, your sessions may be partially covered by Medicare.

How often will I need to come in for sessions?

The frequency of sessions is something we’ll decide together, based on what feels most supportive for you. In the early stages, many people find that meeting fortnightly helps to build momentum. As things progress, sessions can be spaced out in a way that reflects your goals and how you’re feeling.

How long will I need to stay in therapy?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer here, as everyone’s journey is unique. A good starting point is to plan for around six sessions – this gives us time to explore the issues and assess how things are tracking. From there, we can decide on the best path forward.
Some people find a short-term approach helpful during a particular life challenge, while others with deeper or longer-term challenges may choose to continue therapy over several months or drop into therapy on a needs basis for prevention and maintenance of mental health and to continue building resilience over a longer period of time.

What should I do if I’m in crisis and need urgent help?

Anna O’Grady Psychology is not equipped to provide crisis support. If you need immediate assistance, please contact emergency services by calling 000 or visit your nearest hospital Emergency Department. You can also reach out to:

  • Mental Health Triage on 13 14 65
  • Lifeline at 13 11 14
  • Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467

All enquiries are handled with care and confidentiality.

Sessions are available online or in person, and I’ll do my best to find a time that suits your schedule. You can contact me directly to ask a question, learn more about the process, or book your first session.
